Snow Melt
You may have seen it on T.V. - a boiler system that somehow heats sidewalks
and driveways so snow never accumulates in winter. Sound too good to be true?
If you're constructing a new home or tearing out an old driveway, this labor-saving
snow-melting system is probably within reach if your home is heated by a hot
water boiler.
Thanks to advancements in flexible tubing that can carry hot water practically
anywhere, Radiant heat can be supplied to exterior concrete slabs and interior
floors for any number of applications. Typical outdoor uses include melting
snow from walkways, driveways, car ports, and breezeways. The same approach
can be used indoors to heat bathroom and basement floors, as well as for conservatories,
enclosed patios and greenhouses. Radiant heat is ideal for winter under-floor
heating of otherwise cold and clammy tile and ceramic flooring.
A typical snow-melting project starts with us carefully calculating the required
heating capacity. Plans are then made to route radiant floor tubing in the
desired areas. For exterior slab-on-grade installations, the tubing is tied
to a reinforcing steel mesh before the slab is poured. Piping and valves are
installed at the boiler to supply water at the proper temperature. A simple
on/off control can be used to operate the system. When it starts to snow simply
turn on the snowmelt system. We also offer sophisticated electronic controls
to allow for fully automatic operation of your system.
As luxurious as the idea of never having to shovel snow seems, it can be a
surprisingly affordable option. Since your boiler operates at peak performance
during winter months, you're simply harnessing the system's efficiency to
perform a task well within the capabilities of a modern, hot water boiler.
